The lead up to the 1969 Bathurst 500 is best remembered by the launch of the Falcon GT-HO and the looming battle against the Monaro 350. It was also the race debut of 2 drivers who would dominate Australian touring car racing for the next 15+ years. Allan Moffat and Peter Brock.

Whilst the Fords were fastest and occupied 6 of the top 10 grid positions in the race the specially imported Goodyear race tyres wore much faster than expected and the factory cars excepting Allan Moffat with Alan Hamilton all had tyre problems.

Allan Moffat’s car was called into the pits as a precaution and the time lost cost him a better result than 4th.
